Janitorial Data

The MODAPTS supplementary janitorial data is special purpose, predetermined time data designed to improve janitorial operations requiring periodic repetition. When properly applied, the data will help:
  • Provide an understanding of the actual work involved in various janitorial tasks,
  • Assist in labor cost analysis and contract biding,
  • Improve effectiveness through better planning and scheduling, and
  • Assist in the development of a system for piece rating janitorial contracts for businesses and agencies with commensurate wage certificates from the Department of Labor for employing persons with disabilities.

Dr. William H. Pritchard developed the MODAPTS supplementary janitorial data from two sources: from the original MODAPTS data, and from extensive field analysis of janitorial operations in various sites. It has been tested in the field in various sites. The data is sufficiently comprehensive to allow substantial reduction in time needed to analyze a janitorial site with MODAPTS. Its use leads to consistent, reliable standards. Development of the data began in 1990, and was first applied in the janitorial requirements of a sheltered workshop.

Application was extended to several commercial applications in subsequent years. Dr. Pritchard divided his presentation into three sections:

  • A description of each janitorial data block along with a detailed MODAPTS analysis of its components,
  • A strategy description for the development of a labor cost analysis for a janitorial application at a site, and
  • A strategy description for the development of price rate standards for a given site to use for fair and consistent payment for persons with disability under a Department of Labor Commensurate Wage Certificate.

Dr. Pritchard gave all of the applicable copyrights to the International MODAPTS Association.

Supplementary data is a data block approach in which fixed groups or blocks of MODAPTS elements may be added together to obtain time values for elements and for entire operations. Some presently available MODAPTS supplementary data sets are described to the left and below.
